Qingdao business and commerce centre opens in Hong Kong (with photo)
********************************************************************
The city of Qingdao opened the Qingdao (China) Centre for Business and Commerce as its representative office in Hong Kong today (August 17), leveraging Hong Kong's international status to assist Qingdao companies to "go global" and attract overseas companies to Qingdao.

Witnessed by the Governor of Shandong Province, Mr Gong Zheng, and Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Ms Qiu Hong, the Mayor of the Qingdao Municipal People's Government, Mr Meng Fanli, and Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion Mr Francis Ho unveiled a plaque at the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong centre at a symposium on investment co-operation between Hong Kong and Shandong.

The Hong Kong centre is tasked with the mission to promote Qingdao globally on behalf of the municipal government, as well as strengthen bilateral economic, trade and investment co-operation between the two places. Mr Meng said Hong Kong will serve as Qingdao's international window to the world.

He explained, "Hong Kong as an international financial, trade and maritime centre attracts many renowned international companies to set up their regional headquarters in the city. Hong Kong and Qingdao have very close business ties. Hong Kong is not only the biggest source of overseas investment and service transactions in Qingdao, but also the second largest destination of Qingdao outbound investment after the US."

He added, "Qingdao is one of the most important cities along the coast of China. It was one of the first cities in China to open up for overseas investment serving as one of the model cities under the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement by the Ministry of Commerce. Hong Kong is a natural choice for Qingdao in terms of its globalisation process as it offers a solid foundation for deepening bilateral exchanges and encouraging co-operation in economic trade and investment between the two places."

Mr Ho said, "Hong Kong is an international business hub in Asia as well as the gateway to Mainland China. Our city has a deep pool of talent with international and Mainland perspectives and experiences. I believe that the Hong Kong centre will tap into the city’s strategic location and business advantages to help Qingdao companies to 'go global'."
