Update on cluster of Respiratory Syncytial Virus cases in Siu Lam Hospital

Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients infected with Respiratory Syncytial Virus in a female ward for severe intellectual disability, the spokesperson for Siu Lam Hospital gave the following update today (August 14):
Two more patients (aged 21 and 24) in the ward presented with respiratory symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and the test results of one patient were positive for Respiratory Syncytial Virus. The patients are being treated under isolation. One of them is in stable condition, while the other is serious.
Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
