SLW continues Cambodia visit (with photos)
******************************************
The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Dr Law Chi-kwong, continued his visit to Cambodia today (August 11), together with the Commissioner for Labour, Mr Carlson Chan, and his delegation.

In the morning, Dr Law met with representatives of a non-governmental organisation which provides legal support services for local women and children to exchange views on matters relating to Cambodians coming to work as domestic helpers in Hong Kong. Dr Law noted that the Labour Department in Hong Kong has been undertaking various publicity and educational efforts to enhance the awareness of foreign domestic helpers (FDHs) about their employment rights and benefits as well as the channels for seeking assistance in case of need. These include, among others, widely distributing information packs in the mother languages of FDHs and attending the welcome programme organised by relevant consulates-general for newly arrived FDHs.

"The department also hosts a dedicated website on employment of FDHs (the FDH Portal), which contains all publications and publicity videos as well as translated versions of the Standard Employment Contract in FDHs' mother languages for public viewing anytime. To enable Cambodian nationals who are interested to work in Hong Kong as domestic helpers to understand their labour rights and benefits while working in Hong Kong, the Khmer version has been newly added," Dr Law said.

Dr Law then visited a training centre which provides training for Cambodians coming to work in Hong Kong as domestic helpers, and a medical centre for conducting medical examinations for those going to work overseas.

In the afternoon, Dr Law met the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, Mr Ung Sean. Dr Law said he looked forward to working closely with the Cambodian Consulate General in Hong Kong in the future with a view to safeguarding the well-being of Cambodian domestic helpers in Hong Kong.

Dr Law and his delegation will conclude their duty visit this evening and return to Hong Kong tonight.
