Employer fined for late payment of wages
****************************************
ACS International Limited was prosecuted by the Labour Department (LD) for failing to pay six employees wages within seven days after the expiry of their wage periods in accordance with the Employment Ordinance (EO). The amount involved was about $240,000. The employer pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today (August 10) and was fined $54,000.

"The ruling helps disseminate a strong message to all employers that they have to pay wages to employees within the time limit in accordance with the EO," a spokesman for LD said.

"We do not tolerate the above offences and will continue to make dedicated efforts in enforcing the EO and safeguarding employees' statutory rights," the spokesman added.
