***************************************************************

The Planning Department and the Civil Engineering and Development Department today (August 8) announced the Yuen Long South (YLS) Recommended Outline Development Plan (RODP) prepared under the Planning and Engineering Study for Housing Sites in YLS - Investigation.

YLS will be developed as an extension of Yuen Long New Town. As one of the major land development projects, YLS will provide land to meet the medium- to long-term housing needs of Hong Kong. Through comprehensive planning and provision of new infrastructure, the YLS project will optimise the development potential and transform the brownfield sites of about 100 hectares into a liveable and green community. The YLS Development will provide a total of about 28 500 new flats and accommodate a total population of about 88 000, with the support of the required infrastructure, public utilities and commercial and community facilities. These development proposals would generate about 10 500 employment opportunities.

The study has adopted a three-stage community engagement and public comments have been duly taken into account in the preparation of the RODP. The study has also undertaken various assessments to ascertain the technical feasibility of the development proposals.

The information digest explaining the RODP and other relevant materials are available on the study website (www.yuenlongsouth.hk) for public reference.

The Government will continue to work on the details of the implementation arrangements for the project.
