Carnivals and exhibition among highlights of 20th anniversary celebrations (with photos)

     Three carnivals and a calligraphy and painting exhibition will be held in the coming days as part of the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

     To celebrate the HKSAR's 20th anniversary and the 40th anniversary of Yan Oi Tong, two fun-filled events will take place at Areas C and D of the Central Harbourfront Event Space. Visitors will receive a souvenir to be distributed on the event days.

     The Yan Oi Tong 40th Anniversary Charity Fun Day will be held on August 12 from 10am to 6pm. Visitors can enjoy booth games, handicraft workshops, a charity sale, a mega blocks play zone, kids' electric cars and a role-play activity for children.
 
     The Yan Oi Tong Health Promotion Day will be held on August 13 from 10am to 6pm. A variety of programmes will be presented such as free Chinese medical consultation in a mobile clinic, a Chinese medicine health talk and recreational activities.

     Free Chinese medical consultation and souvenir distribution will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

     Shelter Dreams 2017, organised by Junior Chamber International Kowloon, will be staged on August 12 at Kennedy Town Temporary Recreation Ground (opposite 33 Sai Ning Street) from 9am to 10pm. It aims to arouse students' concern for the working poor and understanding of the housing issues of the sandwich class in Hong Kong, as well as to encourage their participation in community affairs.
 
     The event will be open to the public for free. Programmes will include an in-depth orienteering tour, a cardboard shelters building competition, a workshop on financial management, live music performances and talks by guest speakers including Internet celebrities and athletes. Registration is required to join the orienteering tour and can be done online at https://goo.gl/forms/JFUTJxebobub9t9F2 (Chinese only).

     "Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition of Elder Academies in Celebration of 20th Anniversary of Hong Kong's Reunification with the Motherland", to be presented by the New Territories West, Hong Kong Island and Kowloon West Elder Academies Cluster, will provide a platform for senior citizens to exhibit the fruits of their learning and meet friends through cultural activities.
 
     The exhibition, with 150 artworks created by elderly people from different Elder Academies, aims to inspire the elderly to pursue learning and live up to the concept of active ageing.

     The event will be held at the Exhibition Gallery, 7/F, High Block, Hong Kong City Hall, with the following dates and opening hours: August 8 to 9 from 10am to 6pm and August 10 from 10am to 4pm. Visitors will be able to enjoy on-site demonstrations by senior citizens from 11am to noon and 2pm to 3pm daily during the exhibition.

     To share the joy of the 20th anniversary, the HKSAR Government is joining hands with different sectors to organise a wide variety of activities and events under the theme "Together • Progress • Opportunity".

     Altogether, more than 900 events and activities are being staged by the Government and different sectors until the end of 2017.
