The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Edward Yau, today (August 1) visited elderly households in North District under the "Celebrations for All" project. He also met with North District Council (NDC) members and visited some local shops to get an update on local developments and the daily life of local residents.

Upon arrival at Cheung Lung Wai Estate in Sheung Shui, Mr Yau first met with NDC members to exchange views on issues such as telecommunications, reception of TV signals, transportation and the district's economy.

Mr Yau; the District Officer (North), Mr Yau Kin-chung; and the Chairman of the NDC, Mr So Sai-chi, then joined a volunteer team to visit elderly families and families in need there to learn about their needs and daily life. They distributed gift packs to them to share the joy of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Mr Yau also visited some local shops at Shek Wu Hui and chatted with various shop owners to better understand their businesses.

Mr Yau said that this is his first visit to North District since assuming the post of the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development. He pointed out that this is just the starting point, as he and other Principal Officials will continue to pay district visits to communicate with members of the public and listen to their opinions on policies and livelihood issues.

The "Celebrations for All" project is one of the major events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It is co-ordinated by the Home Affairs Department and implemented by non-governmental organisations in the 18 districts.
