WSD launches revamped website
"Through the new layout and user-friendly design, the WSD hopes users will enjoy a new browsing experience. Dedicated areas are created for registered consumers, registered agents, plumbing practitioners and the general public to provide more specific information on services and messages tailor-made for them," a WSD spokesperson said.
The "Registered Consumers" area provides information on "Maintenance of Internal Plumbing" including important notes on plumbing works associated with home and unit renovations. The area also includes a link to the "My Account and Water Supply Service" webpage, which is an integrated platform for water bills management and application for e-Accounts and water supply.
The "Registered Agents" area provides information such as important notes on cleaning water tanks, details on the Quality Water Supply Scheme for Buildings and measures for tackling leakage in communal service (including underground pipes) in housing estates.
The "Plumbing Practitioners" area shares useful reference materials with the industry and the trade. These include information on pipes and fittings approved by the WSD; applicable standards of inside and fire services; the latest WSD Circular Letters relating to the enhancement measures on the control of construction and installation of inside services; and the "Good Practice Guide on Plumbing Works", jointly formulated by the WSD and the Construction Industry Council.
The "General Public" area is loaded with educational messages such as "Water Use Tips" and "Water Saving Tips", with a view to promoting the safe use of water and better use of water resources. The public can also know more about the progress of the follow-up work on the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry into Excess Lead Found in Drinking Water, as well as the enhancement measures implemented by the WSD on the control of construction and installation of inside services.
In addition, users can also get the latest news categorised in their dedicated areas, such as information on the Building Management Week 2017 jointly organised by the WSD and other government departments, application details for recreational and other use of service reservoir roofs, and the WSD's pilot scheme of installing Hong Kong's first floating photovoltaic panel.
In addition to the aforementioned areas, dedicated webpages are created to introduce the work of the WSD, such as "Total Water Management", "Water Loss Management (including the Water Intelligent Network)", "Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant" and "Water Conservation".
To facilitate web surfing with tablet computers and mobile phones, responsive web design is used on the WSD's website. The revamped website will detect the device used and display the appropriate size and content to deliver a smoother and richer user experience.
