LegCo Panel on Commerce and Industry continues its duty visit in Israel (with photos)

     The delegation of the Legislative Council Panel on Commerce and Industry continued the duty visit in Israel today (July 27, Israel time).

     The delegation visited the Tel Aviv University (the University) in the morning and was greeted by the University's Vice President, Professor Raanan Rein. Delegation members were then briefed by the Advisor to the President and Director of Academic Relations and Business Development in Asia of the University, Ms Orly Fromer, as well as several representatives of the institutions affiliated with the University, including the Director of Business Development, Life Sciences and Agro-Tech of Ramot, Mr Natan Elisha; the Managing Partner of Tel Aviv University Ventures, Mr Nimrod Cohen; and the Head of Development of Lahav Executive Education, Mr Alon Epstein, on a number of issues of common interest concerning the University's development.

     Professor Rein took the opportunity to highlight some major achievements of the University in different areas of research and development as well as innovation and technology. The delegation was briefed on the University's experience in creating business connections between scientists, researchers and technological companies. Delegation members also discussed with Mr Elisha on how to transfer new technologies from laboratory to marketplace more efficiently.

     Yesterday afternoon (July 26, Israel time), the delegation visited Ex Libris, a leading provider of high technology library automation solutions, the technology of which has been adopted by universities and institutions worldwide, including various universities in Hong Kong. During the presentation by the Corporate Vice President of Resource Management Solutions, Mr Dvir Hoffman, delegation members were briefed that with the application of information cloud technology, academic, national and research libraries could greatly improve its operation efficiency and enhance user experience. Mr Hoffman also shared with delegation members the Israeli Government's support services in assisting the growth of high technology companies in Israel such as Ex Libris.

     Under the arrangement of the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the delegation also visited Masada. With significant importance in the ancient history of Israel, Masada is a World Heritage Site declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

     Delegation members will meet with the representatives of Viola, a technology oriented private equity investment group, this afternoon before they return to Hong Kong in the evening.
