Cluster of Influenza A cases in Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Wong Tai Sin Hospital

The spokesperson for Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Wong Tai Sin Hospital (WTSH) made the following announcement today (July 25):
Five male patients (aged 52 to 71) and one staff member in an Infirmary Ward of the Department of Rehabilitation and Extended Care have presented with fever and respiratory symptoms since July 19. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and their test results were positive for Influenza A. One of the patients had passed away due to his underlying disease. The other four patients are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition, while the staff member is currently on leave.
Restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
