SED on selection of Under Secretary
***********************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, at a media session after visiting the Hong Kong Book Fair with some youths today (July 24):

Reporter: How would … political views affect the appointment of the Education Under Secretary … for a candidate like Christine Choi, who is considered the Administration's favoured candidate?

Secretary for Education: I would not comment on individual candidates or individual persons. But, as I said before, I think we are trying to find the most suitable person for the job. Please bear with us for some more time, and we will make an announcement as soon as possible.

Reporter: So did the petition against Christine Choi affect your decision in considering candidates for the job?

Secretary for Education: In determining who should be the Under Secretary, we will consider his or her background and also ability. We will also consider the views expressed by different walks of life.
