Implementation of two-way toll collection arrangement at Lantau Link to begin on August 20
******************************************************************************************
The Transport Department (TD) today (July 20) said that a two-way toll collection arrangement will be implemented at the Lantau Link Main Toll Plaza and the Ma Wan Toll Plaza on August 20 (Sunday). In other words, tolls will be collected from motorists for every single trip.

A spokesman for the TD said that the Lantau Link is currently the only vehicular road to Lantau. For the convenience of motorists and smoother traffic to the airport, a one-way toll collection arrangement has been implemented at the Lantau Link since 1997. Motorists are not required to pay the toll when driving through the Lantau Link towards the airport but they have to pay the toll for journeys to and fro at the Lantau Link Main Toll Plaza when returning to Kowloon. For the arrangement in Ma Wan, motorists have to pay the toll for journeys to and fro at the Ma Wan Toll Plaza when entering Ma Wan but nothing when returning to Kowloon.

Upon the commissioning of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the Lantau Link will no longer be the only vehicular road to Lantau, and thus changing the current one-way toll collection arrangement to a two-way one is necessary to prepare for the commissioning of the Bridge. Starting from midnight on August 20, the two-way toll collection arrangement will be implemented at the Lantau Link (including entering and leaving Ma Wan), meaning that motorists will have to pay the toll for every single trip.

For instance, when leaving Lantau towards Kowloon via the Lantau Link, private car or taxi drivers currently have to pay a total of $30 at the Lantau Link Main Toll Plaza. Upon the implementation of the two-way toll collection arrangement on August 20, they will have to pay a toll of $15 for a single trip heading to the airport or Kowloon. The spokesman added that there will not be any change to the amount of additional fare paid by passengers whose taxi hiring involves the use of the Lantau Link.

Upon the implementation of the two-way toll collection arrangement on August 20, two Autotoll lanes and four manual toll collection lanes will be operated at the Lantau Link Main Toll Plaza (airport bound). Five toll collection lanes, namely Nos. 13 to 17, will close until December to facilitate the installation of toll collection facilities and systems, and the related civil engineering works (see the Annex). Motorists should follow the guidance of the traffic signs to be erected at the scene.

Meanwhile, the spokesman reminded that since the toll tickets are non-refundable and no change will be given, motorists using the Lantau Link should use the remaining toll tickets with round-trip face values (i.e. $20, $30, $40 and $50) as soon as possible and purchase toll tickets with single-trip face values (i.e. $10, $15, $20 and $25). More than one toll ticket with single-trip face value can be used at the same time. Motorists who wish to exchange toll tickets with round-trip face values for single-trip ones can contact Wilson Parking (Holdings) Limited at 2830 3845 for enquiries about the arrangements.

For enquiries on the two-way toll collection arrangement, motorists can visit the TD's website (www.td.gov.hk) or call 1823.
