Exhibition, public art project and reading programme to be held amid 20th anniversary celebrations (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
A roving exhibition and the launch of a public art project are among the highlights of celebration events for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) to be held in the coming days.

The fourth leg of the "HKSAR 20th Anniversary Roving Exhibition" opened at the ground floor of Cityplaza in Taikoo Shing yesterday (July 15) and will run until July 24.

An LED touchscreen panel has been set up at the venue to showcase the developments and achievements of the HKSAR over the past 20 years in areas such as the economy, technology, infrastructure, tourism, culture and sport. The exhibition also features winning entries of the 20th anniversary poster and video competitions.

An interactive game zone as well as a giant rubber duck for photo-taking and selfies are also among the attractions. The 20th anniversary theme song "Hong Kong Our Home" and two promotional videos with the theme "Together · Progress · Opportunity" are also being shown. Visitors can take home a 20th anniversary souvenir distributed on the day by clicking the "Like" button on the HKSAR 20th anniversary Facebook page (www.facebook.com/HKSAR20) at the exhibition venue.

The opening hours of the exhibition are from 10am to 9pm. Members of the public are welcome to visit and admission is free.

Starting on July 23, 20 sets of public artworks in the form of aesthetically appealing and functional furniture will be displayed at the open space of 20 Leisure and Cultural Services Department venues across the 18 districts, such as parks, waterfront promenades, leisure areas and playgrounds.

The "City Dress Up: Seats‧Together" project is organised by the Art Promotion Office to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, and it also aims to inject artistic elements into the cityscape and promote solidarity in communities.

The 20 sets of creative seats were designed by 20 promising and budding artists or artist teams, with the assistance of four professional guest curatorial teams. The artworks have been made specifically to complement the surrounding environment and the characteristics of the respective locations or districts.

An opening ceremony will be held at 4.30pm on July 22 at the Culture Plaza of the Central and Western District Promenade (Central Section) to launch the displays. Participating guest curators and artists of the project will share their creative ideas with the attending guests. Photos of the 20 artworks will also be showcased at the venue. The event will be open to the public.

For details of the project and the locations of the seats, please visit www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/Museum/APO/en_US/web/apo/city_dress_up.html.

A rich variety of interesting reading activities for parents and children is being offered this summer by the Hong Kong Public Libraries through Summer Reading Month 2017.

One of the highlight activities is an exhibition with a theme of "A Tour of Chinese Culture" to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR. Different types of Chinese scripts and their development, together with 10 items of intangible cultural heritage in the Mainland and Hong Kong, will be introduced. Visitors will be able to see the beauty of Chinese scripts at the exhibition and be inspired to learn more about them through reading. The display will be held at the Hong Kong Central Library from 1pm to 7pm on July 22 and 10am to 7pm from July 23 to August 20.

In addition to the exhibition, other fun-filled programmes include family contests on dramatisation of Chinese stories, reading talks, cultural performances, parent-child workshops, interactive storytelling sessions, a Reading Charter and more. A thematic resources guide has also been prepared for parents, teachers and children to find out more on Chinese culture with the use of library resources.

The above free-admission activities will be held concurrently in the Hong Kong Central Library and other public libraries in various districts until August 20. The thematic exhibition and performances are walk-in activities and some programmes require registration in advance. For details, please visit www.hkpl.gov.hk/srm or call 2921 2660.
