Transcript of remarks by STH
****************************
Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Transport and Housing, Mr Frank Chan Fan, at a media session after attending radio programmes this morning (July 12):

Reporter: Does that mean some laws needed to be changed on how to define the territory for the facilities? Has Beijing agreed to it?

Secretary for Transport and Housing: As far as the co-location is concerned in the XRL (Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link) terminal in West Kowloon, we are talking about forging an agreement with our counterparts in the Mainland to ensure a smooth and enjoyable transit through the immigration, customs and quarantine (procedures). The so-called designated area is to enable an enjoyable process for the passengers to go through various stages of clearance, either they come from the Mainland to Hong Kong, or from Hong Kong to the Mainland. In the process, we do not have any particular concern about the so-called political aspect despite the fact that we are fully aware of fellow citizens' concern and care about their personal safety and security. But, I can assure you that in the process, we have been cohering very strictly to the "one country, two systems" principle and in ensuring the integrity of the Basic Law. So, please rest assured.
