Police officers issued a total of 1,501 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 54 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (July 10).
The operation concluded at 7pm and a total of 325 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 1,331 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 170 for other traffic offences.
Besides, two pedestrians and three drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offence.
Statistics revealed that a total of 1,369 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to June 2017, of which 414 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 36 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
