Territory-wide operation to combat illegal parking
**************************************************

Police will conduct a persistent territory-wide operation from tomorrow (July 10) to combat illegal parking and offences which obstruct traffic flow.

Stringent enforcement action will be taken during the operation. The Police will issue summons to drivers in relation to illegal parking, particularly double parking, illegal loading, unloading, picking-up and alighting activities, and stopping or waiting at restricted zones.

A Police spokesman said that the Police would issue multiple tickets and take summons action against drivers who blatantly contravened illegal parking regulations, obstructed traffic flow or endangered other road users. Illegally parked vehicles would be towed away if necessary.

Police figures showed that a total of 700,878 fixed penalty tickets against parking offences were issued from January to May in 2017, an increase of 18 per cent compared with the same period of last year.

The Police will continue to strengthen publicity and education for road users in complying with traffic regulations, with a view to avoiding traffic accidents and maintaining smooth traffic flow.
