President Xi inspects PLA Hong Kong Garrison and visits JPC Activity Centre (with photos/videos)
******************************************************************************************
President Xi Jinping inspected troops of the People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison at Shek Kong Barracks this morning (June 30).

He then proceeded to visit the Junior Police Call (JPC) Permanent Activity Centre and Integrated Youth Training Camp at Pat Heung.

He was briefed by JPC members on the aim of setting up the JPC Scheme, the facilities and training concept of the Training Camp.

President Xi then watched the leadership and physical training sessions and chatted with some JPC members before posing for a group photo.

Joining him for the visit were the Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung; the Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok; the Commissioner of Police, Mr Lo Wai-chung; the Permanent Secretary for Security, Mr Joshua Law; and the Under Secretary for Security, Mr John Lee.

The Chief Executive announced in the 2016 Policy Address that the Police would adopt a host of measures to enhance the JPC and youth work, including the setting up of this Training Camp at Pat Heung to provide discipline, physical and team-building training for youths.

The Training Camp, built at the former Fire Services Training School at Pat Heung, is planned to be opened in the middle of this year.

Covering an area of 29,000 square metres, the Training Camp has various facilities including sports climbing facilities, an artificial turf soccer pitch, an indoor sports hall and rooms for computing and creative activities as well as crime scene investigation training.  It will provide services for JPC members, students, youth organisations, ethnic minorities and Senior Police Call members.

The JPC Scheme was set up in 1974. Over a million people have taken part in the Scheme and it has now more than 180,000 members. Its aim is to encourage members to join hands with the community in the fight against crime and to provide leadership training. After the return to the motherland, JPC has regularly organised Mainland exchange programmes to equip its members with better knowledge of our country.
