Flamenco star Eva Yerbabuena to return with new work "Apariencias"
******************************************************************
Accompanied by distinguished dancers and an ensemble of excellent musicians, internationally renowned flamenco dancer Eva Yerbabuena will make a welcome return to Hong Kong with her new production "Apariencias" (Appearances) in September.

Inspired by impressionism and deep reflection, in "Apariencias" nothing is what it seems to be. Influenced by the most legitimate, pure and classical flamenco, Yerbabuena takes off on a journey that veers from complexity to simplicity through a passionate landscape where dance, music, voices, lights and words help the artist divest herself of everything that binds her. "Apariencias" is not about understanding, but about feeling, confronting and living without appearances. Yerbabuena believes that there is nothing more contemporary than flamenco, and that our ties prevent us from losing ourselves and enjoying freedom.

Yerbabuena was born in Frankfurt in 1970 and returned to her parent's homeland in Granada, Spain when she was just two weeks old. She formed her company in 1998 and since then has choreographed a long list of award-winning shows. Famed for her speed, power, dramatic footwork and her fusion of traditional flamenco forms with her own inimitable style, Yerbabuena has been one of Spain's leading dancers for over a decade.

"Apariencias" by Compañia Eva Yerbabuena is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and among the events celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It will be staged at 7.45pm on September 23 (Saturday) and at 3pm on September 24 (Sunday) at the Grand Theatre of Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Tickets priced at $180, $280, $400 and $520 are now available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk). For telephone credit card bookings, please call 2111 5999. For programme enquiries and concessionary schemes, please call 2268 7323 or visit www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/CulturalService/Programme/en/dance/programs_225.html. A post-performance talk to be given by Yerbabuena in English will take place after the first performance.

To tie-in with the performance, a flamenco dance workshop (to be conducted in English) will be held at 11am on September 23 at the Rehearsal Room 1, Ko Shan Theatre New Wing. Participants with flamenco dance training are welcome and should wear suitable costumes and shoes. Tickets priced at $150 will be available from August 23 (Wednesday) onwards at all URBTIX outlets, via Internet, by mobile ticketing app and by credit card telephone booking.
