Variety show by Guangdong and Hong Kong schools to celebrate 20th anniversary of establishment of HKSAR (with photos)

     Students of more than 20 local and Mainland schools joined hands at the "Variety Show in Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the HKSAR Reunification by Guangdong and Hong Kong Schools" today (June 21) to present spectacular performances in celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). The event was jointly organised by the Education Bureau and the regional school heads associations of Hong Kong, Kowloon and New Territories regions and was held at Queen Elizabeth Stadium.
 
     The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, officiated at the opening ceremony. Other officiating guests included Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR Mr Tan Tieniu; the Director of the Office for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs of the Ministry of Education, Ms Liu Jin; the Deputy Director of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, Mr Wang Chuang; the Secretary for Education, Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim; the Chairman of the Panel on Education of the Legislative Council, Dr Chiang Lai-wan; and the Chairman of the Education Commission, Mr Tim Lui.
 
     The Variety Show featured a wide variety of performances, including choral speaking by sister schools from Guangdong and Hong Kong, lion and dragon dance, choir singing, musical instrument performance, Chinese and Western dances, rope skipping, marching band performance and cheerleading.
 
     Apart from the education departments of Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Macau, and the local educational bodies, there were around 3 000 teachers and students from primary and secondary schools from different districts of Hong Kong participating in the event.
