LegCo Subcommittee on Children's Rights visits Pik Uk Correctional Institution (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:
 
     The Legislative Council (LegCo) Subcommittee on Children's Rights visited Pik Uk Correctional Institution (PUCI) under the Hong Kong Correctional Services Department today (June 16) to better understand its operation.
 
     Accompanied by the Assistant Commissioner of Correctional Services (Rehabilitation), Mr Tang Ping-ming, Members first received a briefing on the operation of PUCI. They then toured around and chatted with young inmates to get to know their daily life and needs. They also visited the kitchen to understand the meal arrangements for the young inmates of PUCI.

     PUCI is a maximum-security institution for young male remands and convicted young persons.

     Members participating in the visit included the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Children's Rights, Dr Fernando Cheung; the Deputy Chairman, Mr Shiu Ka-chun; and Subcommittee members Dr Elizabeth Quat, Mr Chu Hoi-dick, Mr Nathan Law and Dr Lau Siu-lai.
