The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, held a welcoming reception this evening (June 15) for speakers, exhibitors and supporting organisations taking part in the Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit (GIES) to be held from tomorrow (June 16) for three consecutive days at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The event is co-hosted by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service. The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation is the co-organiser. The GIES will showcase new technology products from various places around the world and explore how technological application can enhance quality of life for the elderly. It is also one of the signature events celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR.

Mr Leung thanked all participants, especially those coming from outside Hong Kong, for sharing their experience in tackling population ageing through technology and innovative solutions, which would assist Hong Kong in mapping out the way forward for strengthening relevant developments in the future.

The GIES consists of two parts: the Expo and the Summit. Experts will speak at the four plenary sessions under the Summit while over 100 exhibitors from around the world will demonstrate their innovative products or service models at the Expo. In addition, over 20 sessions of workshops and briefings will also be held during the event. Members of the public may visit the event website (gies2017.hkcss.org.hk) for more information. A social media page (www.facebook.com/gies2017) has also been set up for sharing relevant information.
