"Heritage Vogue · Hollywood Road" to be staged on July 1 and 2 to celebrate HKSAR 20th anniversary
***************************************************************

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, a street carnival called "Heritage Vogue · Hollywood Road" will be held on July 1 and 2 with a series of activities such as exhibitions, workshops and performances, providing a unique opportunity for the public to experience the rich history, heritage, cultural and arts ambience of Hollywood Road.

The event is spearheaded by the Commissioner for Heritage's Office (CHO) of the Development Bureau in co-organisation with the Antiquities and Monuments Office, Tai Kwun, PMQ, the Hong Kong Antique and Art Galleries Association (HKAAGA) and Arts in Heritage Research.

A spokesman for the CHO said today (June 14), "We can nowadays still find many declared monuments, historic buildings, antique shops and galleries along Hollywood Road, which is indeed one of the earliest roads in Hong Kong. We hope to showcase the history of Hollywood Road while also promoting local economy by introducing the antique shops and galleries to the public. The event is unique and meaningful."

The event will be launched at PMQ on July 1 with creative stalls, workshops and music performances as well as the sale of Hong Kong local snacks. On July 2 the event will also take place on the section of Hollywood Road from Aberdeen Street through to the junction with Wyndham Street and will include a cheongsam show, street dances, singing and music performances, guided tours, sketching activities, workshops, exhibitions and more. The non-profit-making organisations that run the Batch I and II projects of the Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme (Revitalisation Scheme) will also host activities at their own marquees along the road, enabling the public to learn more about the current uses and services of revitalised historic buildings. The HKAAGA will organise a variety of events on Upper Lascar Row, including exhibitions, workshops, flash mob dances and music as well as sale of traditional snacks.

Route maps of the event will be distributed at various locations in the territory from June 22 onwards. During the event period, Hollywood Road pamphlets, route maps and magnetic badges will be distributed at the visitor information counters on Hollywood Road and Upper Lascar Row on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors can also collect special stamps based on the eight Revitalisation Scheme projects, PMQ and Tai Kwun (Central Police Station Compound) at the visitor information counters of Hollywood Road as souvenirs of their journey of heritage exploration.

The Batch I and II projects of the Revitalisation Scheme are Savannah College of Art and Design (Hong Kong), Tai O Heritage Hotel, Hong Kong Baptist University School of Chinese Medicine - Lui Seng Chun, Jao Tsung-I Academy, YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel, Green Hub, Stone Houses Family Garden and Viva Blue House.

The participating groups and artists include Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong, Cheongsam Connect in support by Youth Square, Hong Kong Arts Centre, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, HKTA Tang Hin Memorial Secondary School, Jarvis, KIS, Kong U Big Band, Kwok Tak Seng Catholic Secondary School, KSANA band, Music for Our Young Foundation, Music Office of Leisure and Cultural Services Department, NTBM (Not To Be Missed) Band, Szabotage, The Conservancy Association Centre for Heritage and Wi-cus dance crew@sgm studio.
