S for IT conducts home visits under "Celebrations for All" project in Southern District (with photos)

     The Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Nicholas W Yang, joined the launch ceremony of home visits under the "Celebrations for All" project in Southern District this afternoon (June 10). Home visits to single elderly people and elderly couples were conducted together with the representatives of the Southern District Council and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) as well as volunteer teams, bringing love and care to members of the community.

     At the launch ceremony, Mr Yang expressed his heartfelt thanks to the NGOs and volunteer teams for arranging and participating in the home visits. The participating NGOs are the Hong Kong Southern District Community Association, the Aberdeen Kai-fong Welfare Association, the Caritas Community Centre - Aberdeen and the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals in Southern District.

     Accompanied by the Chairman of the Southern District Council, Mr Chu Ching-hong, and the District Officer (Southern), Mr Chow Chor-tim, Mr Yang then visited three elderly households in Ap Lei Chau Estate to better understand their living conditions and needs. They are two elderly couples and an elderly woman living on her own. Gift packs were distributed to them to show love and care from various sectors and the joy of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

     The Permanent Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Cheuk Wing-hing; the Under Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Dr David Chung; the Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Allen Yeung; and the Deputy Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Mr Johann Wong, also participated in today's home visits.

     Home visits under "Celebration for All" project are one of the major events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The project is co-ordinated by the Home Affairs Department and implemented by NGOs in the 18 districts.
