********************************************************************************
The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) today (June 6) held the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Certificate Award Ceremony cum Technical Seminar to commend organisations which have made efforts to achieve good IAQ.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Permanent Secretary for the Environment/Director of Environmental Protection, Mr Donald Tong, said that maintaining good IAQ is very important as many people stay indoors most of the time every day. He found it very encouraging that the number of premises participating in the IAQ Certification Scheme for Offices and Public Places has been increasing. He also praised the premises owners and property management companies participating in the IAQ Certification Scheme for setting a good example and helping to raise the awareness of the community about IAQ.

By the end of 2016, about 1 400 premises in Hong Kong had obtained IAQ certificates, an increase of 15 per cent as compared to 2015. Participating premises include office buildings, shopping malls, clubhouses, educational institutions, hotels and other public places, of which 269 premises achieved Excellent Class IAQ while 1 126 premises achieved Good Class IAQ. Premises which have joined the IAQ Certification Scheme for 10 years as well as the 10 organisations with the highest participation rates also received special awards today to be recognised for their active participation and support over the years.

A technical seminar was held following the award ceremony, with professionals and management representatives of various types of premises invited to share tips for achieving good IAQ with the attendees.

Any organisation or individual interested in joining or having a better understanding of the IAQ Certification Scheme can obtain more information from the IAQ Information Centre or via its dedicated website at www.iaq.gov.hk.
