Yuen Chau Kok Community Hall in Sha Tin officially opened (with photos)
***********************************************************************
The Director of Home Affairs, Miss Janice Tse, today (June 6) officiated at the opening ceremony of Yuen Chau Kok Community Hall in Sha Tin, marking the official commissioning of the new community hall. The hall provides an additional venue for district residents to organise and participate in community activities.

Situated at 35 Ngan Shing Street in Sha Tin, Yuen Chau Kok Community Hall is located in the Yuen Chau Kok Complex, which also includes a sports centre and a public library which were opened to the public earlier. The complex provides the local community with diverse cultural and recreational facilities.

The community hall is equipped with a multi-purpose hall with a stage and seating capacity for 444 persons, a conference room and dressing rooms. The conference room is also equipped with wall-mounted mirrors and a dance rehearsal bar, which can be converted into a room for dance meetings and other purposes if needed. The community hall was constructed with environmentally friendly features and sustainable development concepts including planters on the outside walls of the building, solar panels on the roof and a rainwater recycling system.

Speaking at the ceremony, Miss Tse said that Sha Tin is an administrative district which accounts for one-tenth of the territory's total population, and its population is growing, giving rise to a strong demand for community facilities in the district. The opening of the Yuen Chau Kok Community Hall provides an additional venue for district groups to organise a variety of community activities, which in turn helps to achieve the objective of improving locals' quality of life and social cohesion, she said.

Other officiating guests included the Chairman of Sha Tin District Council (STDC), Mr Ho Hau-cheung; the District Officer (Sha Tin), Ms Amy Chan; the Chairman of the District Facilities Management Committee of STDC, Ms Tung Kin-lei; and the Convenor of the Working Group on the Management of Community Halls and Libraries of STDC, Ms Lam Chung-yan. Shatin Women's Association and Caritas Nursery School-Shatin were invited to perform Tai Chi, singing and lion dancing at the ceremony.

Yuen Chau Kok Community Hall, built by the Architectural Services Department, is managed by the Sha Tin District Office and has been available for bookings since May.

In addition to the newly opened Yuen Chau Kok Community Hall, there are nine other community halls and three community centres in Sha Tin District.
