Hongkong Post commemorative stamp issue: "The 20th Anniversary of the Stationing of the Chinese People's Liberation Army in Hong Kong" (with photos)
***************************************************************

Hongkong Post announced today (June 5) that a stamp sheetlet on the theme of "The 20th Anniversary of the Stationing of the Chinese People's Liberation Army in Hong Kong", together with associated philatelic products, will be issued on June 20 (Tuesday).

The Chinese People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison is stationed by the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) for defence duties. Since its stationing in the HKSAR on July 1, 1997, the Hong Kong Garrison has adhered to the guiding principle of "one country, two systems", strictly abided by the Basic Law and the Garrison Law in discharging its defence functions in the HKSAR and upheld national sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity and the security of Hong Kong. Hongkong Post is issuing a stamp sheetlet in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the stationing of the Chinese People's Liberation Army in Hong Kong.

Shown on the right side of the stamp sheetlet is the Chinese People's Liberation Army Forces Hong Kong Building at the Central Harbourfront. The Hong Kong Garrison is the only garrison of the Chinese People's Liberation Army comprising units from the army, the navy and the air force. The stamp displays the strong and gallant Guard of Honour formed by the three forces.

Official First Day Covers will be on sale at $1.30 each at all post offices from tomorrow (June 6). The stamps and associated philatelic products will be displayed at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office, Sha Tin Central Post Office and Tuen Mun Central Post Office from the same day. Advance orders for servicing self-provided covers will be accepted at all philatelic offices from tomorrow to June 12.
