Buildings Department's response on investigation report on collapse of portion of Married Inspectors' Quarters Building at Central Police Station Compound

     In response to media enquiries on the investigation report on the collapse of a portion of the Married Inspectors' Quarters Building (MIQ Building) at the Central Police Station Compound, a spokesman for the Buildings Department (BD) today (May 31) gave the following reply.

     According to the record, concerned persons who are responsible for the alteration and addition works of MIQ Building are as follows:
 
*Authorized Person: Mr Chan Chiu-ming
*Registered Structural Engineer: Mr Kwan Kin-kei
*Registered General Building Contractor (RGBC): Gammon Construction Limited
*Authorized Signatory (AS) of RGBC: Mr Leung Chi-hung of Gammon Construction Limited
*Building sub-contractor: Stonewest (HK) Limited

     In light of the investigation findings and after consultation with the Department of Justice, the BD has instigated prosecution proceedings under sections 40(2B)(b) and 40(2A)(b) of the BO against the RGBC (i.e. Gammon Construction Limited) directly concerned with the building works, and under section 40(2B)(b) of the BO against the AS of the RGBC (i.e. Mr Leung Chi-hung of Gammon Construction Limited) and a building contractor (i.e. Stonewest (HK) Limited) involved in the incident. Summonses to the aforesaid companies / persons were issued by the Eastern Magistrates' Courts today.
