     The Government today (May 23) announced the appointment of Mr Stephen Christopher Phillips as the Director-General of Investment Promotion on May 25, 2017, following an open-cum-in-service recruitment exercise.
 
     Concerning  Mr Phillips' appointment, the Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Clement Cheung, said, "Mr Phillips possesses outstanding management abilities and extensive international experience. I have confidence that he will be able to lead Invest Hong Kong to meet the challenges ahead."
 
     Brief biographical notes on Mr Phillips are set out below:

     Aged 53, Mr Phillips has served in senior positions in a number of private and public organisations.
 
     Mr Phillips lived and worked in Hong Kong from 1989 to 2004. In 2004, Mr Phillips joined UK Trade & Investment (now the Department of International Trade) and participated in policies and strategies setting for investment and trade promotion as well as market access work. As Chief Executive of the China Britain Business Council, Mr Phillips has been dedicated to promoting investment and trade between the two places since 2006.
