Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 1,032 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 45 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (May 15).

     The operation concluded at 7pm and a total of 308 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 934 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 98 for other traffic offences.

     Besides, one pedestrian was cautioned for committing minor traffic offence.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 910 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island in January to April 2017, of which 278 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 38.8 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
