Employer fined for wage offences
********************************
BC&A Hong Kong Limited was prosecuted by the Labour Department for failing to pay wages amounting to about $170,000 to four employees within seven days after the expiry of their wage periods, as required by the Employment Ordinance. The employer pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today (May 4) and was fined $93,000.

"The judgment will disseminate a strong message to all employers that they have to pay wages to employees in accordance with the Employment Ordinance," a spokesman for the Labour Department said.

"The Labour Department does not tolerate the above offences and will spare no effort in enforcing the law and safeguarding employees' statutory rights," the spokesman added.
