******************************************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

The Legislative Council (LegCo) Subcommittee on Children's Rights today (April 28) visited the Social Welfare Department's Tuen Mun Children and Juvenile Home (TMCJH) to better understand its operation.

Accompanied by the Assistant Director of Social Welfare (Youth and Corrections), Mrs Helen Kwok, Members first received a briefing on the facilities, services and training programmes provided for the residents of TMCJH. They then toured the central control room, dormitory, fitness training room and beauty care workshop. They also visited the canteen and kitchen to understand the meal arrangements for the residents of TMCJH. During the visit, Members took the opportunity to chat with the residents to get to know their daily life and needs.

TMCJH was set up in 2007 after the co-location of six correctional homes under the purview of the Social Welfare Department to provide residential treatment service for mal-adjusted children and juveniles as well as young offenders.

The Subcommittee on Children's Rights will discuss issues relating to the correctional home at its meeting on May 23. The agenda of the meeting can be found at the following website:
