Update on cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci cases at Tuen Mun Hospital
********************************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) carriers in a Medicine and Geriatrics ward, the spokesperson for Tuen Mun Hospital gave the following update today (April 28):

In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, the hospital has conducted contact tracing and two more male patients (aged 67 and 74) were confirmed as VRE carriers without clinical symptoms. They are still hospitalised under isolation and medical surveillance. While one of the patients is in a serious condition, the other patient remains stable.

The hospital will maintain its enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation in the ward. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow-up.
