Chief Executive in Council approves termination of TVBNV's pay TV licence
***************************************************************

The Government announced today (April 25) that the Chief Executive (CE) in Council has approved the termination of the domestic pay television programme service (pay TV) licence of TVB Network Vision Limited (TVBNV) with effect from June 1, 2017.

Upon the CE in Council's decision, TVBNV's pay TV licence has been amended to end on May 31, 2017.

A spokesman for the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau said, "TVBNV wrote to the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development on January 10, 2017, to seek the approval of the CE in Council for the surrender of its pay TV licence. In accordance with established practice, the Communications Authority (CA) has examined the obligations and liabilities accrued by TVBNV under the licence.

"Apart from the licence fee to be paid for the 2017/2018 licence year, the CA considered that there are no outstanding obligations and liabilities accrued under the licence, and the company has put in place satisfactory exit/migration arrangements for subscribers after the termination of its pay TV licence. The CE in Council therefore approved the termination of TVBNV’s pay TV licence. The CA will follow up with TVBNV regarding the said licence fee in accordance with the relevant statutory requirements."

The pay TV licence of TVBNV was renewed by the CE in Council on August 21, 2012, with a period of validity of 12 years from February 23, 2013, to February 22, 2025.
