The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Stephen Sui, met the visiting delegation led by the Minister of Labour and Vocational Training of Cambodia, Dr Ith Samheng, today (April 24) at Central Government Offices, Tamar.

During the meeting, Mr Sui exchanged views with the Minister about the labour policies and the development of human capital in both places, and how the two governments could foster co-operation and exchanges under the Belt and Road Initiative.

"Following the Immigration Department's earlier announcement on relaxation of visa requirements for nationals of Cambodia from March 2017 onward, nationals of Cambodia may apply to enter Hong Kong for employment under different schemes, or for investment, training and study. For those who are interested to work as domestic helpers in Hong Kong, we see plenty of opportunities available here," said Mr Sui.

Regarding the importation of foreign domestic helpers (FDHs), the Minister and the delegation were briefed about the policy background, labour protection and support services available to FDHs, and regulations on employment agencies (EAs) in Hong Kong particularly in respect of the fees that EAs are allowed to charge job-seekers for job-placement.

Both sides agreed to continue working together to assist the nationals of Cambodia to come to work in Hong Kong as domestic helpers.
