Cluster of Influenza A cases at Kowloon Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Kowloon Hospital (KH) made the following announcement today (April 13):

     Nine patients (eight male and one female, aged 29 to 71) in a KH rehabilitation ward presented with upper respiratory tract infection symptoms since April 7. Clinical tests were arranged and confirmed the patients had Influenza A infection. The patients are being treated under isolation and are all in a stable condition. Five staff members have recovered and reported for duty, and two staff members are currently on sick leave.

     Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
