"Meet-the-Authors" talks to be held at public libraries

     The Hong Kong Public Libraries of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will hold the "Meet-the-Authors 2017" talk series, with a theme of "Hong Kong: A Cultural Puzzle", from April to November. Nineteen authors will share their exclusive experiences in the multicultural aspects of Hong Kong, giving participants a better understanding of their hometown.
 
     The talks, to be held at various public libraries, are divided into three series, namely "Exploring New Dimensions of Hong Kong", "Searching for Memories of Hong Kong" and "Appreciation of History of Hong Kong". Young people, students and other interested parties are welcome to attend. All the talks will be conducted in Cantonese and admission is free.
 
     Ten talks will be held from April to June with details as follows:
 
"Exploring New Dimensions of Hong Kong" series
On April 29, writer Ms Chau Yung-yung will discuss her journey of writing while travelling around the world; on May 6, freelance reporter Ms So Mei-chi will analyse the subtle relationship between foreign domestic helpers and their employers; on May 20, playwright Ms Chong Mui-ngam will explain the development of arts in Hong Kong and her literary journey to playwriting; and on June 17, writer on Hong Kong pop culture Mr Koo Wing-shun will elaborate on how to seek inspiration for creative writing from daily life.
 
"Searching for Memories of Hong Kong" series
On May 13, editor and writer Ms Chow Suk-ping will delve into her past journey and talk about the important people and things in her life; on June 3, illustrator and publisher of children's books Ms Adeline Ko will lead participants to savour childhood memories through children's picture books; and on June 10, writer on Hong Kong nature Mr Teddy Law will share his views on the relationship between humans and nature through his hiking experience.
 
"Appreciation of History of Hong Kong" series
On April 22, collector and writer Mr Cheng Po-hung will review the development of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon; on May 27, Professor Selina Chan from the Department of Sociology of Hong Kong Shue Yan University will discuss a unique type of intangible cultural heritage - the Yu Lan Ghost Festival of the Hong Kong Chiu Chow Community; and on June 24, writer Mr Cheung Tai-chong will talk about the skills used in writing a personal interview.
