Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected liquid cocaine (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs today (April 8) seized about nine kilograms of suspected liquid cocaine with an estimated market value of about $9.2 million at the Hong Kong International Airport.
 
     A female passenger arrived in Hong Kong from Brazil via Johannesburg of South Africa this afternoon. During Customs clearance, Customs officers spotted suspicious X-ray images against nine items of canned food-like object inside her check-in baggage. Thorough examination led to the discovery of a total of nine kilograms of suspected liquid cocaine in the nine metal cans.
 
     The arrested woman, aged 49, claimed to be unemployed. Investigation is ongoing.
 
     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
