Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected smuggled used smartphones (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs today (April 7) seized 736 suspected smuggled used smartphones with an estimated market value of about $1.4 million at Man Kam To Control Point.

     Customs officers intercepted an outgoing container truck at Man Kam To Control Point for inspection this morning and seized 736 used smartphones inside the altered axles of the trailer. The 59-year-old male driver was arrested. Investigation is ongoing.

     Smuggling is a serious offence.  Under the Import and Export Ordinance, any person found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo is liable to a maximum fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
