Electors' phone numbers not on Registration and Electoral Office's suspected stolen computers

     In response to media enquiries today (April 6) that an elector had received phone calls asking about his/her voting preference, the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) issued the following statement:
 
     The REO is fully assisting in the Police investigation of the suspected theft of computers. No phone numbers and voting records of electors are stored on the two notebook computers suspected to have been stolen.
 
     The ballot is secret. Electors are not obliged to disclose any information on their voting preference. It is a criminal offence for a person to require or purport to require an elector/authorised representative to disclose the name of, or any particular relating to, the candidate/list of candidates for whom the elector/authorised representative has voted at an election.
