Government's initiative to provide one-off extra payment to recipients of Work Incentive Transport Subsidy
******************************************************************************************
The Government has included in the 2017-18 Budget an initiative that "eligible recipients" of the Work Incentive Transport Subsidy (WITS) be provided with a one-off extra payment. Subject to the passage of the Appropriation Bill 2017, the Labour Department (LD) will make necessary adjustments to its computer system to arrange for the payment to be made to eligible recipients as soon as possible.

Under the WITS Scheme, "eligible recipients" refers to those whose applications for WITS are made in the applicable period (i.e. from the beginning of six calendar months immediately before the month in which the Appropriation Bill 2017 is passed to the date of passage of the Appropriation Bill 2017). The date of the postmark will be adopted as the date of the WITS application if it is sent by post. The extra payment is equal to the average monthly amount payable to the eligible recipients in their most recently approved WITS applications, which varies from case to case.

New applicants or past recipients of the WITS are encouraged to submit their applications before the applicable period expires. Under the WITS Scheme, applicants may choose to submit applications covering the preceding six to 12 calendar months. Irrespective of the number of calendar months covered in past application(s), an applicant may consider submitting an application before the applicable period expires having regard to individual circumstances. For example, an applicant may make an application to cover fewer calendar months when compared to the past application(s).
