Operational event at Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station
****************************************************
An operational event at Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station (YNPS) was reported today (March 31) on the website of Yangjiang Nuclear Power Co Ltd (YNPC), a spokesperson for the Security Bureau said today.

On March 29, Unit 4 of YNPS was operating at full power. During the requalification test of ventilating fans of the ventilation system, an abnormality was found at the electrical connection for the signal of the limiting switches of ventilation valves number 3 and 4. Station staff promptly rectified the connection and restored the function of the system. Investigation showed that the limiting switches of the valves were improperly connected in earlier maintenance.

The event was classified as a "Below Scale Licensing Operational Event" (i.e. "Level 0" event) on the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale, and has no effect on the safe operation of the nuclear power station, the health of the workers, the nearby public or the environment. All nuclear generating units currently in operation at YNPS remain in normal and stable operation.

YNPC has disclosed details about this event on its website. They can be viewed at the "operational events" section under the "nuclear and radiation safety information" webpage of the YNPC website (www.yjnp.com.cn).
