Transcript of remarks by Chief Executive-elect
***********************************************
Following is a transcript of remarks by the Chief Executive-elect, Mrs Carrie Lam, at a media session this morning (March 31):

Reporter: Why is it important that you state that you are not part of any political affiliation?

Chief Executive-elect: Well, that's a requirement by law.

Reporter: I mean in other countries, perhaps in the US or Britain, you're allowed to have political affiliation, and you were voted in by the pro-establishment camp.

Chief Executive-elect: That's a fundamental difference in the political systems between Hong Kong and other places, so it's not a question of which is right, which is wrong, but our political system at the moment, by law, does not allow the Chief Executive to have any political affiliation.

Reporter: How's the progress of your cabinet so far?

Chief Executive-elect: Slowly, slowly. I have to say that this is not going to be an easy process, because in the current political climate, to join a political team really requires a bit of courage. So, I can only say that for those candidates whom I feel are very suitable, I will use my utmost effort to impress upon them and hopefully to inspire them to join the team, but it's not going to be an easy process - it's going on.
