The Chief Executive-elect, Mrs Carrie Lam, today (March 30) visited her alma mater St Francis' Canossian College and met teachers and students.

St Francis' Canossian College was founded by Canossian missionaries from Italy in 1869. Mrs Lam studied in the school for 13 years from primary school to matriculation before going to university.

Accompanied by the Principal, Mr Kenneth Law, and Vice Principal, Ms Rebecca Lee, Mrs Lam toured the school and was briefed on its redevelopment project. She was taken to a garden which was built with her donations. Two former principals, Sister Marie Remedios and Sister Susanna Yu, and more than 10 alumni also joined the visit.

Mrs Lam told some 60 students from different classes that she was most grateful to the schools nurturing. The motto of St Francis' Canossian College is "Live by the Truth in Love". She said that rather than academic achievements, the school attaches the greatest importance to instilling in students correct values, which include loyalty, faithfulness, charity and love, so as to become an honest, reliable, responsible and committed person.

Her sharing session with students was warmly received. She shared her experiences in learning, her expectations of the younger generation and how various social issues should be tackled.

She also visited classrooms and took photos with students. All of them were so excited.

Before departing from the school, Mrs Lam met with reporters after the visit and said, "I was elected as the next Chief Executive at this historic moment. I wish to thank the school for their nurturing. I also want to express my gratitude to the school principal and all teachers for their dedication to education."

The Chief Executive-elect pledged that she would give new resources to Hong Kong education and conduct a comprehensive review of the sector and to create a stable, caring, creative and fulfilling education environment for students, principals, teachers and parents in this city.
