Award Scheme for Learning Experiences under Qualifications Framework opens for applications
******************************************************************************************
The 2017-18 Award Scheme for Learning Experiences under the Qualifications Framework (QF) will be open for applications from tomorrow (March 20) until May 26. Practitioners from 22 industries or sectors are welcome to apply.

A spokesman for the Education Bureau said that the theme for this year's Award Scheme - "Learning has no boundaries; experiences facilitate progression" - reflects the aim of the Award Scheme in encouraging outstanding or emerging practitioners to engage in learning activities around the world with a view to broadening their horizons and sharpening their edge. Through the learning activities, practitioners can also establish networks and rapport with local and overseas practitioners.

Over the past four years, the Award Scheme has attracted over 700 practitioners from different industries to apply and over 200 of them were awarded.

"Feedback from awardees in the past years shows that the Award Scheme not only afforded them the opportunities to broaden horizons and extend networks, but also reinforced their spirit of lifelong learning. Through their pursuit of continuous learning, they are able to upgrade themselves both personally and at work. We hope that these awardees will serve as role models for their respective industries and help promote the QF," the spokesman said.

Under the 2016-17 Award Scheme, for example, an awardee from the fashion industry took part in a wool knitwear design competition and won a prize. She said that through the competition, her skills and knowledge in knitting and weaving design have improved significantly. Another awardee from the Information & Communications Technology industry attended a seminar on electronic games development in Taipei and witnessed new game development technology and products at the event. She brought a new idea for product development back to her company in Hong Kong, and it was eventually accepted by the company.

The Award Scheme covers 22 industries or sectors under the QF. With the establishment of the latest Arboriculture & Horticulture Industry Training Advisory Committee (ITAC) in October 2016, there are 21 ITACs (see Annex) under the QF at present, covering about 53 per cent of the workforce in Hong Kong.

The learning activities in which practitioners can participate under the Award Scheme include competitions, seminars, sharing sessions and study tours. Awardees engaging in local learning activities will receive an award of $10,000 while Awardees engaging in learning activities outside Hong Kong will receive an award of $30,000.
