The Department of Health (DH) today (March 12) held the World Oral Health Day cum Love Teeth Campaign and Healthy Ageing in Public Rental Housing Estates Activity Day. Under the theme of "Live Mouth Smart", the activity aimed at reminding the public about the importance of oral health.

The Consultant-in-Charge, Dental Service of the DH, Dr Wiley Lam, said at the launch ceremony today, "To live a smart life, the public should take care of their oral health. We should develop proper oral health and eating habits, seek regular dental check-ups and avoid harmful behaviours such as smoking."

The DH holds the annual Love Teeth Campaign to promote good oral self-care and appropriate use of professional oral care among the public. Since 2016, the department has conducted an oral health programme for the elderly in collaboration with the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) and the Hong Kong Dental Association by incorporating an oral health element into the existing Healthy Ageing in Public Rental Housing programme regularly run by the HA. Over the past 12 months, about 500 elderly tenants from various public housing estates attended the three talks cum workshops held under the programme.

The public can visit the website of the DH's Oral Health Education Unit for more information on oral health (www.toothclub.gov.hk/en/en_index.html).
