Cluster of Coronavirus cases of Siu Lam Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for New Territories West Cluster made the following update today (March 5) regarding two earlier announcements by Siu Lam Hospital and Castle Peak Hospital respectively on clusters of in-patient infections:

     Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients infected with Coronavirus OC43 in a male ward for severe intellectual disability in Siu Lam Hospital, one more 46-year-old patient and a staff member in the ward had presented with respiratory symptoms. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patient and the test result was positive to Coronavirus OC43. The concerned patient is being treated under isolation with stable condition. The staff member is currently on leave.

     On the other hand, regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients infected with Norovirus in a male adult psychiatric ward in Castle Peak Hospital, one more 49-year-old patient in the ward had presented with diarrhoea symptom. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patient. The concerned patient is being treated under isolation with stable condition.

     Admission to the concerned wards in the two hospitals has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the wards are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
