*****************************************************
The Tianjin Liaison Unit (TJLU) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (HKSARG) came into operation today (February 27) with the aim of assisting Hong Kong people and enterprises to better capitalise on the opportunities brought about by the development of Tianjin Municipality.

Located in Tianjin, the TJLU has been set up under the Office of the HKSARG in Beijing (Beijing Office).

The Director of the Beijing Office, Ms Gracie Foo, said, "The TJLU will work towards strengthening relations between Hong Kong and the Tianjin Municipal Government by enhancing government-to-government co-operation. It will also promote exchange and co-operation between Hong Kong and Tianjin on economic, trade and cultural fronts, as well as provide support to Hong Kong residents and enterprises in the municipality."

The Chief Executive announced in his 2017 Policy Address that a liaison unit would be set up in Tianjin by the middle of this year. The Beijing Office has been working closely with the relevant authorities of Tianjin Municipality to make preparations for the setting up of the TJLU.

The TJLU is initially operating from a temporary office so as to commence service as early as possible. The temporary office is located at Room 4126, Tianjin World Financial Center, No.2 Dagubei Road, Heping District, Tianjin (Tel: (86 22) 5830 7884; email: tjlu@bjo.gov.hk).
