Results of Strategic Public Policy Research Funding Scheme 2016-17 announced
****************************************************************************
The Central Policy Unit (CPU) announced today (February 16) the funding results of the Strategic Public Policy Research (SPPR) Funding Scheme 2016-17.

The CPU processed 46 proposals in this round. To ensure academic freedom and the quality of the research projects, assessments were conducted by an assessment panel comprising experienced academics. Apart from panel members, the CPU also invited reviewers who are academics and experts outside the panel to assess the applications. Each application was considered on its merits and contributions towards the making of strategic public policies. A declaration of interests system is in place to ensure that the assessments are fair and just.

After the above assessment process, the CPU decided to fund, on the advice of the assessment panel, three projects with a total funding of about $9.8 million.

Details of the funded projects have been uploaded to the CPU's website (www.cpu.gov.hk).

The Public Policy Research (PPR) Funding Scheme has gradually gained support from the community since its launch. The annual provision for the Funding Scheme has been $30 million since 2015-16. To facilitate longer-term strategic public policy research, capacity building and collaboration, the CPU introduced the re-modelled SPPR Funding Scheme in April 2016 having regard to the success of the PPR Funding Scheme. Both funding schemes will run simultaneously.
