HKETO Berlin holds receptions to celebrate Year of the Rooster (with photo)
***************************************************************************
The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Berlin (HKETO Berlin) is hosting a series of receptions in European cities to celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Rooster.

Chinese New Year is the most colourful festival in Hong Kong and enchants both locals and visitors. The celebrations showcase the East meets West character of Hong Kong, an international city deeply rooted in Chinese culture. It is a time when people pray for good fortune in Chinese temples, watch dragon and lion dances go from door to door, enjoy festive lucky foods with family and friends, join the crowds for the annual parade of international floats and troupes, or just walk down streets decorated with red lanterns.

HKETO Berlin is holding the Chinese New Year receptions in 11 locations in Central and Eastern Europe, namely Budapest (January 12), Warsaw (January 18), Frankfurt (February 1), Munich (February 6), Berlin (February 13), Vienna (February 22), Bratislava (February 23), Ljubljana (February 24), Hamburg (March 2), Zurich (March 6) and Prague (March 9).

At the receptions, the Director of HKETO Berlin, Ms Betty Ho, is highlighting the unique advantages that Hong Kong enjoys under "one country, two systems", as well as Hong Kong's very strong links with the Mainland of China that continue to make it the preferred location for doing business in Asia.

"Added with our fundamental strengths, including the rule of law, free flow of capital and information, a business-friendly environment, a diverse and international talent pool, and a low and simple tax regime, Hong Kong has been named the most competitive economy in the world in the International Institute for Management Development World Competitiveness Yearbook 2016, and one of the top five in the World Bank's chart for ease of doing business. Long established as a global financial, commercial, services and logistics centre, Hong Kong can give full play to its strength as a 'super-connector' between Central and Eastern European countries and the Mainland of China," Ms Ho said at the reception in Berlin.

This year also marks the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China and the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. HKETO Berlin will organise a wide variety of events throughout the year to celebrate this milestone in various countries covered by the office.
