***********************************************************************************
Some 500 guests attended the spring reception in Tokyo, Japan, today (February 9) organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Tokyo) to celebrate the Year of the Rooster.

Speaking to guests from various sectors including the Japanese political and business circles, academia and community groups, the Principal Hong Kong Economic and Trade Representative (Tokyo), Ms Shirley Yung, pointed out that Hong Kong and Japan are connected in many ways, and the close ties between the two places are very much treasured.

"Many international corporations, including over 1 300 Japanese companies, see Hong Kong not only as a regional base and a partner for their business operations, but also as a 'super-connector' to business opportunities including those arising from the Belt and Road Initiative," Ms Yung said.

On the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Ms Yung said that her office will organise a series of events in various parts of Japan this year to celebrate the major milestone.

She said there will be a number of events catering to different sectors of society in such fields as music, dance, art, culture and business.

The spring reception was jointly organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Tokyo), the Hong Kong-Japan Business Co-operation Committee and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
